Sita Sings the Blues
Nina Paley, (2008) 82 mins.
Screening Saturday 13th 2.15pm €12

We are delighted to be screening Nina Paley's wonderful Sita Sings the Blues at this year's festival, without question one of the highlights of the programme. The film is an incredible achievement, an animation mixing various modes and styles from the shadow puppetry of Lotte Reiniger to the contemporary sheen of Disney and Pixar. The celebrated film critic Roger Ebert called the film "a miracle" (here's his brilliant review in full). It is a captivating mix of autobiography and historical epic. It is simultaneously intensely personal, 'the greatest break-up story ever told', and universal in its scope, a ridiculously fun film. Highly recommended.
