 "[T]he film essay enables the filmmaker to make the ‘invisible’ world of thoughts and ideas visible on the screen. Unlike the documentary film that presents facts and information, the essay film produces complex thought—reflections that are not necessarily bound to reality, but can also be contradictory, irrational, and fantastic." Hans Richter We are delighted to have the celebrated video essayist and NY Times film critic Matt Zoller Seitz with us for the festival. He will be presenting here an illustrated lecture exploring the significance of the video essay. The talk will present several examples of his own work within the context of several other contemporary exponents of the form.
