The Wind
Sjostrom, V., Silent, (1928) 95 mins.
Screening Sunday 14th 8pm €15

Put simply 'The Wind' is one of the most audacious and well realised silent films ever made. This, our closing film of this year's festival, is another classic by the great Swedish director Victor Sjostrom. Hugely ambitious in its execution, is has a visual poetry that would rarely be seen again on screen. In the film Letty, played by the wonderful Lilian Gish in what for many would be her most memorable role, moves to a house in the desert, idyllic at first, as the wind begins to pick up things become more complicated. Gish who's success guaranteed her a certain amount of control over her projects specifically chose Sjostrom for the project and it is without question one of the highlights of her great career as well as this festival. It is also for a number of reasons an enormously difficult to see. It screens here with live accompaniment by the wonderful Stephen Horne, I recommend booking early. You can also find a more detailed introduction to the film here.
